Loft conversions 'can boost property prices'
Adding an extension or loft conversion can often increase the asking price of a property, according to one expert.
Maud Rosseau, a spokesperson for property site Rightmove, said that in most cases extensions and loft conversions would add to the value of a home and could be useful for those who required extra space but did not wish to move.
Investors with property in an in-demand street which is experiencing a lot of interest should definitely consider adding an extension, especially another floor, she said.
Her comments came after a survey from house builder Redrow revealed that 75 per cent of those living in a traditional two-storey home are attracted to the idea of adding an extra floor onto their living space.
However, she added that if an investor's property was already at the top end of the price scale and had little room for growth, it was sometimes "inadvisable" to try and extend the house for profit.
She advised: "When you are planning a loft conversion you obviously have to consider the neighbours and you have to always apply to the council for any new building work on your home."
