House prices 'increase fastest in London'
House prices in April rose fastest in London, according to new figures from the Land Registry.
Those looking for buy-to-let investments may be interested to read that London house prices increased by 1.3 per cent during the month.
This rate of increase was well above the rest of England and Wales, which saw prices rise by 0.6 per cent, the study reveals.
Annual increases in the British capital are also outpacing the rest of the country at 15.6 per cent, the data indicates.
In comparison, the statistics show that the east midlands has seen increases of six per cent during the same year-long period.
"The April data shows the current rate of increase for London house prices is over six
per cent per annum greater than that of England and Wales as a whole," the Land Registry commented.
Meanwhile, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) said that London will continue to perform stronger than other parts of Britain, which could affect investment decisions for buy-to-let landlords.
"London's out-performance will remain as business and financial services continue to provide the source of much of the UK's economic growth," said David Stubbs, senior economist at Rics.
